2010 Biodiversity Year

The UN declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB), which means that throughout the year there will be countless of initiatives and events promoting the biodiveristy and its conservation.

The institution, which coordinates the actions is the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The European Union, which have a system on environmental protection -Natura 2000, could not achieve the targets preventing biodiversity loss to 2010. In this year EU should develop a strategy for biodiversity in the long term to 2050.
